The Royal Bar. 1970s.

The Royal Bar sat at the corner of 1 Tureen Street and 464 Gallowgate. Many will remember this pub as the Windmill Bar.

There has been a pub on this site since 1815 operated by John Thomson.

Michael McGonigle brother of James McGonigle owned the pub in the 1940s. Michael went on to own the Swan Inn in Lennoxtown in the 1950s.

The Swan Inn is still opened today. 2010.

However, the old Royal Bar on the Gallowgate was demolished around 1976 in the massive clearance of the old Gallowgate tenements and pubs.
